2. If damage is found, repair it in time. Check the hull frequently. If the resin is peeled off, the scratches are deep, and the fibers are exposed, it must be repaired in time, otherwise the damage will be accelerated due to the infiltration of water.


3. When not in use, especially in the cold winter season, put it ashore. Because FRP has a certain degree of water absorption, water can gradually penetrate into the interior along the tiny channel between the glass fiber and the resin interface, and the strength of FRP will gradually decrease. Especially in winter, the infiltrated water freezes when it is cold, which expands the seepage channel and causes greater harm. Therefore, when the boat is not in use in winter, it should be set aside from the water and shore to make the infiltrated water volatilize and the strength can be gradually restored. Doing so can extend the life of the ship. The boat should be cleaned first after landing, put it upright with cushions, and place it indoors. If it is placed outdoors, it should be covered with a tarpaulin, and it should be ventilated frequently to prevent moisture. When the boat is temporarily not in use, it shall be maintained offshore.

4. Do not accumulate water in the boat for a long time. If there is water in the boat, it should be removed in time. If acid-base media such as battery fluid is spilled into the boat, it must be rinsed and cleaned with water in time and then wiped dry.


5. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Pergola should be set up at the boat berth. Long-term exposure is not good for FRP, and the color of the gel coat layer will also be affected.



6. Frequent cleaning and cleaning. The surface of the boat should be kept clean and the deck should be scrubbed frequently. The surface contaminated by oil and other things can be cleaned with ordinary household cleaners. Do not use strong corrosive solvents, detergent powder or metal wire to scrub, so as not to leave scratches and affect the appearance. If the stain is difficult to remove, it can be cleaned with gasoline, kerosene, diesel, toluene, xylene, styrene, acetone, etc., but must be rinsed with water immediately after washing to prevent intrusion into the structure. When cleaning, you can also use a tool spatula, but you should use bamboo chips or plastic chips with a hardness lower than that of FRP to avoid scratching the surface. Soft materials such as jersey, gauze, soft towel and soft foam can be used for scrubbing.


7. Remove salt frost in time. Boats sailing in the sea must remove the salt crystals (salt frost) attached to the surface of the boat in time. Because the salt crystals have a convex lens focusing effect in the sun, the surface glass fiber reinforced plastic will accelerate the aging under the action of high temperature.


8. Regular waxing and polishing. In order to make the surface of the hull bright and protect the gel coat layer, the surface of the boat should be waxed and polished regularly. The material can be car wax or glass fiber reinforced plastic special polishing wax, which can be applied two to three times, with an interval of 2 hours between each pass, so that a tough wax film is formed on the surface of the glass fiber reinforced plastic. Polish with a portable polishing machine to make the surface bright as new.


9. Apply paint to keep it beautiful and durable. The new boat with a gel coat layer looks beautiful, but after two or three years of use, the color gradually fades and loses its luster, and the dark color is even worse than the light color. In order to keep the appearance of the boat beautiful, when the color of the outer gel coat layer is old and there are many scratches, the method of applying paint can be adopted. Among various paints, polyurethane and epoxy resin paint are the best. Before painting, the surface of the boat should be cleaned first, dewaxed with a dewaxing agent such as mold cleaning water, and polished with water sanding paper. Deep scratches should be embedded with epoxy putty, and the paint should be applied after the preliminary work according to the paint requirements ( Painting), the painted boat is as beautiful as a new boat.
